seasonal immunisation toolset for 2018
Our seasonal immunisation tools work within EMIS Web to help maximise the number of patients who are offered a seasonal influenza and pneumococcal vaccination. Not only is high vaccination uptake a nationally audited hallmark of good clinical practice, but also it is one of the most profitable enhanced services, particularly when careful attention is paid to correct coding and administration.
Our software helps with the opportunistic identification of patients who may require an offer of seasonal influenza or pneumococcal vaccination and automates recording of batch numbers, expiry dates and sites of administration. The 2018 update makes it easy for clinicians to give the correct vaccine based on NHS England recommendations.
CCG audited data from a practice which used these tools found a 8.6% rise in the vaccination rate for over 65s and a 23% rise in the vaccination rate for the high-risk under 65s, compared to baseline. For an average-sized practice with around 7,000 patients, a 10% improvement in vaccination rates equates to more than £1,500 of extra income.
Some elements of our Seasonal Immunisations Tools use EMIS authored content from the EMIS Library which is installed in all EMIS Web GP surgeries.

reception pop-up remindersThe reception pop-up alert monitors the patient records being loaded by receptionists. If a patient appears to be eligible for a flu or pneumococcal vaccination a pop-up alert appears asking them to offer the patient an appointment in the vaccination clinic.
The text in the alert changes depending on which vaccinations the patient appears eligible for. |

clinician pop-up reminders
Our clinician pop-up constantly monitors the patient records being loaded by nurses and GPs. Should an eligible patient who is under 65 years old attend, a pop-up appears reminding them that the patient may be eligible for a vaccination, which can be given opportunistically during the consultation. The text in the alert changes depending on which vaccine they appear eligible for.
We recommend only switching this protocol on once you are 6-8 weeks into your flu immunisation programme. |

Choosing the correct influenza vaccine to offer patients
This software has been carefully constructed to streamline the recording of influenza and pneumococcal immunisations by clinicians. It will advise clinicians what vaccine is recommended by NHS England for the age of the current patient and allow quick recording that a vaccine has been administered.
The protocol automatically checks whether their record contains any coded contraindications. Batch numbers and sites of injection are automatically recorded by simply clicking the required option. The slideshow to the right demonstrates how this appears for a 60 year old patient in an at-risk group who is eligible for both a flu and pneumococcal vaccination. For patients who are only eligible for one vaccination, users will only be asked to record the vaccination they need. If a patient declines a vaccination or advises of a contraindication that has not been already recorded, this can be quickly recorded using the protocol. |
